The government of Himachal Pradesh has approved 14 new proposals for setting up industrial units in the state which will require an investment of Rs 233.36 crore. However, 126 industrials units could not get government's nod for slow progress. While clearing the 14 proposals, the government issued strict advisory to promoters to take steps for installation of pollution control and effluent treatment facilities to the satisfaction of the State Pollution Control Board.

The proposals were approved at a meeting of the state-level single-window authority headed by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. Most of the proposals submitted by pharmaceutical companies and multi-nationals were readily accepted. M/s Proctor and Gamble proposal to set up a Rs 32-crore unit for manufacture of skincare products at Baddi also got the green signal from the government.

CM Dhumal said that Himachal Pradesh has taken up the issue with the Centre for extending the industrial package up to 2013. According to the CM, revised industrial policy has not been implemented practically which has forced a large number of youths of the state to remain unemployed. He urged the entrepreneurs to set up units at the interiors of the state where they will be provided with additional incentives.
