The recent highway robberies in the region have prompted the Punjab Police for coming out with a comprehensive plan to strengthen patrolling on all highways.
"All district police chiefs have been instructed to submit their plan of action and requirement of motorcycles to make their highway patrolling more professional," said the police spokesperson in Chandigarh on Wednesday.
"Motorcycles equipped with various communication devices, a first aid box and security gadgets will be supplied to all the districts as per their requirements. The idea is to catch the highway robbers or culprits without any delay," he added.
The spokesperson said that the state Director General of Police, P.S. Gill, has ordered the integration of highway patrolling with PCR (police control room) patrolling in every district.
The highway patrol parties would also be manning the strategic points, including accident-prone areas, and also manage the traffic flow in case of any emergency on the highways.
