The dates of Hero Honda hockey World Cup to be held in Delhi next year have been rescheduled. The championship will now take place from February 28 to March 13, according to a press release from the Federation Internationale de Hockey (FIH) on Friday.
The reason assigned is to ensure a "better worldwide promotion of FIH's showcase event", the release stated.
The new schedule has been done keeping in view any clash with a couple of major tournaments, notably Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket.
The 12 best teams of the world will participate in the championship that will take place at the National Stadium in New Delhi.
India who is playing host along with Canada, Korea and South Africa has already qualified for the World Cup. The other seven teams will be selected by November 2009, the release added.
