According to Meghalaya Governor, Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary, helicopter-tourism can help in boosting the tourism of the state.
The Meghalaya Governor had a meeting with the Tourism Minister Kumari Selja for discussing the promotion of tourism in Meghalaya.
"Meghalaya has vast tourism potential both for domestic as well as foreign tourists. Tourism is one of the most important aspects in achieving the national integration," he said.
He added that Meghalaya has witnessed a growth in the number of tourists because of the Leave Travel Concession offered for the central government employees.
When enquired about helicopter-based tourism, he answered that this has to be made more affordable so that more tourists can opt for this. He added that there are plans for subsidizing it.
Helicopter-tourism is one among the “nice products” announced by union Tourism Minister, Kumari Selja, for promoting tourists. This option is provided for those destinations which attract tourists but cannot be reached via rail or road. Helipads have been constructed for the same in the concerned places.
