Talented and versatile actress Helen Mirren finally got an opportunity to meet the Queen, two years after she played her in the critically acclaimed film ‘The Queen’ and won an Oscar for the same. Earlier, the Academy award winner had to turn down an invitation to meet the Queen Elizabeth II owing to work commitments. The reel and real life Queen however finally met and chatted in the Royal Box at the Ascot Race meeting in England on Thursday, June 19, 2008.
The actress also made quite a fashion statement at Royal Ascot Ladies Day race. Mirren wore a wide brimmed black hat and a monochrome jacket as she presented silverware to one of the day’s winners. The 62 year old actress shared complete spotlight with the real life monarch, who presented the Gold Cup later in the afternoon. The Berkshire meet witnessed a steady and healthy turn out of the members from the royal family. Autumn Phillips, the newest addition to the royal family, also attended her first Royal Ascot as part of the traditional horse-drawn procession. The newly wed of Peter Phillip was in the carriage with Peter and Princess Eugenie.
