The Danish Copenhagen University team recently undertook a study, which has revealed that Anti-HIV drug may make a HIV+ person more susceptible to heart attack. The drug ‘abacavir’ and ‘didanosine’ are the two drugs which are believed to increase the risk of heart attack in a person diagnosed with HIV. The Danish researchers in this study made an examination of several Anti-HIV drugs, out of which only these two drugs were found to have side-effects on the heart organ. The manufacturers of abacavir, Glaxo Smith Kline assert that they had earlier undertaken 54 studies and none of the study revealed a heart risk. Experts also suggest that the benefits of the drug outweigh the risk factor associated with the consumption of the drug.
