With a view to attract health conscious visitors, the government of Himachal Pradesh has decided to promote ancient systems of nature cure on the lines of Kerala tourism. While informing about the new objective, Himachal chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said such pattern of health tourism is very popular in Kerala hence the state government has decided to adopt it.
Prem Kumar Dhumal informed that initially nine health resorts will be opened in the state and the search for suitable spots has already begun. In addition to these, the state government will sent 28 ayurvedic medical officers to Kerala for acquiring training in nature cure systems. According to Himachal Pradesh CM, the state is very rich in medicinal plant species which can contribute towards curing innumerable incurable diseases.
Dhumal informed that people living in remote villages still use the locally grown herbs to treat diseases. The state of Himachal Pradesh has attracted 9.37 million domestic and 367,000 foreign tourists in 2008. Apart from abundant flora and fauna, the state is famous for apples, a World Heritage railway and picture-perfect tourist spots. Places like Kullu, Manali and Shimla have still remained the hotspots for tourists.
