HDFC announced on Tuesday (February 10) to install its first back office operations hub in eastern India at Rajrahat, Kolkata. According to a top official of HDFC, the eastern India hub will come up at an initial cost of Rs 6 crore. Talking to media, HDFC vice-president and regional head (eastern India) Madhusudan Hegde informed that the bank will initially procure 30,000 square feet of space in the IT hub of Rajrahat. He added that the new hub will come up at Ecospace in Rajrahat.
HDFC already operates its services in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai and the setting up of new hub will further expand its operations particularly in eastern part of the country. According to Madhusudan Hegde, the setting up of new hub will absorb about three hundred people at different posts. Informing about the expansion plan of the proposed hub, Hegde said that HDFC has planned to add two more floors of 30,000 sq ft each for hub.
The expansion of the hub will cost the bank another package of Rs.180 million and it will create about 900 jobs, informed Hegde. Talking about Ecospace, Ambuja Realty chairman Harsh Neotia informed that the complex will have four buildings spread over 20 acres and will be equipped with all modern infrastructure. He said that the project costs Rs 2.90 billion. Ambuja Realty is the chief promoter of Ecospace. According to Neotia, HDFC will play the part of an anchor investor in the project.
