With the target of exporting worth $200 million from its unit in Rajasthan in the next five years, Havells announced its desire to make India the global manufacturing hub for compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) equipment. According to Anil Gupta, Managing Director - Havells, the European markets were kept in mind while setting up the Neemrana Plant. The company has invested close to Rs.150 crore in the plant and it intends to export nearly half of the total production of the plant to the European Union countries. Out of the total exports, approximately about $150 million would come from the CFL unit and the rest $50 million from its motor manufacturing unit at the plant.

The U.K. based CFL plant has been closed and the entire production is being shifted to the Neemrana plant. The company has a plan to manufacture 40 million units of CFL and 20,000 units of motors in a month from this plant. The motor manufacturing plant is the largest motor manufacturing unit in the country by having an installed capacity of around 20,000 units a month.

According to Mr. Gupta, this will help the company optimize costs and create a single manufacturing hub which will result in maximizing the production capacities during the economic downturn. It has also consolidated  the existing Indian units in Faridabad and Haridwar which produced the energy efficient lighting products. After the consolidation, the Neemrana plant is expected to produce four million units of CFL, which is just double the current production.
