The Election Commission notified on Friday that the state assembly elections of Haryana will be held in October 2009.
The notification, issued on Friday, calls for the elections of the 90-member assembly to be held on 13th October. The notification has set 25th Sep, Friday, as the last date for filing the nominations. It also stated that the nomination papers filed will be scrutinized on Sep 26, Saturday.
The deadline set for the withdrawal of nominations is Sep 29. The polls will be held on the 13th Oct from 7 a.m. till 5 p.m. The counting of the votes will held on 22nd October.
The ruling Congress government of Haryana, which was led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has called for the dissolution of the assembly during August 2009, which was almost 7 months before its term came to an end.
While the main opposition party, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), has declared its candidates for 42 seats, the ruling Congress is yet to announce its list.
Other parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) are also likely to announce their candidates in the next two or three days.
