Haryana Transport Minister Mange Ram Gupta has announced that Saarthi Volvo AC bus service will start its service. The services of Saarthi have been resumed after almost three years. Now with the decision Chandigarh-Delhi-Gurgaon route will be pleasant experience for thousands of commuters who were yelling for hot weather condition inside buses.
Earlier, Saarthi Volvo bus service was introduced by taking the buses on lease from a private agency in Oct 1, 2005. However, later on dramatically, after a few weeks, the agency terminated its contract because of losses, and the service had to discontinue, now with the firm decision from the state government the bus service has been started again.
The transport minister said that Saarthi fleet so far has four Volvo buses which according to him each bus costs over Rs.6.2 million; however he said that government is firm to buy six more Volvo buses in the coming days. Announcing the fare he told media that Chandigarh-Delhi is Rs.390, and Chandigarh-Gurgaon is Rs.440. Passengers will get free bottles of mineral water, newspapers, and magazines in the buses.
