Haroon Lorgat of South Africa has been anointed the new chief executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Malcolm Speed will step down to allow 47-year-old Haroon Lorgat will take over the post of ICC CEO after the governing body's annual conference starting on 29th June. Lorgat, who happens to be an ex-South African chief selector, was appointed the ICC CEO as week after his compatriot, Imtiaz Patel turned down the same proposal.
The ICC board has formally confirmed the appointment of Haroon Lorgat as its new CEO. This happened after Lorgat met the ICC president-elect David Morgan in Pretoria recently and the recruitment committee cleared him. Having served as a first class cricketer, South Africa’s Haroon Lorgat spearheaded the selection panel from 2004 onwards till the previous year. He is presently an executive director of a South African investment company.
