In an unprecedented incident on Friday, April 25, 2008 an Indian player turned against his country mate, owing to IPL rivalry. Mumbai Indians spinner Harbhajan Singh, allegedly slapped Kings XI Punjab pace bowler Sreesanth moments after the latter’s IPL team won their first match at Mohali. Eyewitnesses to the incident revealed that when a smiling Sreesanth walked up to Harbhajan after the match and said ‘hard luck’, Harbhajan lost his control and slapped Sreesanth, reducing the latter to tears.

Harbhajan Singh, however, refused to make any comments on the incident, when journalists asked him about the bitter row with Sreesanth. The spinner asked the media to just put up questions related to cricket. However, Kings XI Punjab captain, Yuvraj Singh was more forthcoming in his views as he termed the incident as ‘ugly’ and unacceptable’. The winning team captain though added that Harbhajan had gone up to the dressing room and apologized to Sreesanth. Later, Sreesanth told reporters that nothing serious had happened and both the players are together a part of the national team.
