Lewis Hamilton received his trophy as Formula One's youngest champion on Friday (12th December). The 23-year-old said that by winning the trophy he had fulfilled a childhood dream. He was talking at the International Automobile Federation gala awards dinner.
The sport's first black champion Hamilton added that he was so proud of his effort in 2008 because he won the drivers' world championship on the very last lap of the very last race.
Ferrari's Brazilian Felipe Massa, beaten by a single point after winning his home race last month, celebrated his team's constructors' crown and saw his own achievements in a positive light.
However Massa promised to do his best to come back to Monaco next year to receive the same prize which as gone to Lewis this year.
Singapore, host of Formula One's first night grand prix this year, was awarded the race promoters' trophy.
