Two separate cases have been filed against the LeT chief, Hafiz Saeed, by Pakistan. Saeed has been accused as the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai carnage and he has also been named as the leader of Jamaat-Ud-Dawa group, which acts on behalf of Lashkar-e-Toiba, a terrorist group which is named to have involved in several attacks in India.
The cases have been filed in two Faisalabad police stations in wake of the sermons made by Saeed recently where he had expressed his concerns over India’s stand on Pakistan's nuclear assets. He had also expressed apprehension over the Pakistani government's change in Kashmir policy during his sermons at iftar parties held on Aug 26 and Aug 27 in Faisalabad.
Hafiz Saeed has been accused on the "charges of appealing for jihad fund" even though such appeals have been banned.
Over 170 people, including 26 foreigners, were killed in the Nov 26-29, 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Despite keeping Saeed under house arrest after banning Jamaat-Ud-Dawa, he was set free in June 2009 by a Pakistani court, stating that there was no proof to reain his detention.
Meanwhile, India accused Pakistan of blocking the inquiry into the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and safeguarding Saeed.
"They (Pakistan) have a vested interest in safeguarding Hafiz Saeed. We have no doubt that Saeed is the brain behind the 26/11 attacks and have evidence to prove it," Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna had told.
