A hacker who refers himself by the name ‘Anonymous Coward’ has posted the personal data of six million residents of Chile over the Internet in order to underscore the serious privacy problem in the country. The data, which comprises the names, addresses, telephone numbers and taxpayer identification numbers of Chilean residents, was posted on a well-known Chilean technology blog Fayerwayer.com on Saturday, May 10. A site editor who detected the data posted on the blog on Saturday was simply flabbergasted.

He instantly removed the data from the blog Fayerwayer.com and apprised the police about the problem. However, as days went by the same data kept popping up on other prominent websites also such as Google's Blogger.

In a message posted along with the data files, "Anonymous Coward" said that his intention of doing this is to draw attention to the poor data protection measures in the country of 16 million people.  The mysterious hacker also points to the fact that the data post by him contains information about the daughter of Chilean president Michelle Bachelet.
