According to Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, about 20 private laboratories all over India have been granted the permission to conduct the tests for confirming swine flu. He emphasized that the spread of H1N1 infection is being controlled and that there is nothing to cause panic.
"We have increased government testing laboratories from 18 to 23 and have also allowed 20 private laboratories to conduct swine flu testing," Azad told reporters.
He said: "Health ministry will verify and allow more players to do the job provided they match the quality."
He addressed the press and media after lecturing at a meeting held on the National Rural Health Mission by the health ministers of all the states. NRHM is a government initiate which intends to endow the rural and inaccessible areas of India with medical care, while maintaining the quality.
The Health Minister said, "We have 36 confirmed deaths, but some newspapers have reported a death toll of 45”. This comment was made by him in wake of the confusion in the number of deaths that had been reported.
"We will recheck the figures with the state governments and let you know the exact number of deaths so far. There is no need to panic as the country has so far managed to control the spread of virus”, he said.
