Today is Guruparab, which is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism. Millions of devotes have been gathering for celebrating this special occasion in Punjab as well as in all the other gurudwras located across this nation.
The crowd outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar for paying the obeisance on this day is really massive.
Hundreds of other gurdwaras in cities, towns and villages also saw a stream of devotees since morning.
Guru Nanak Dev was born in 1469 at Nankana Sahib, now a part of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Nearly 2,000 devotees from India have gone to Pakistan to pay obeisance at the Nankana Sahib gurdwara, even though the home ministry had warned the citizens against the deteriorating condition of Pakistan due to terrorist attacks.
Langars (community kitchens) have been organised at all gurdwaras across Punjab and along major highways to serve food to people.
