The Gurjjar leaders early morning on Saturday, June 07, 2008 announced the 50 member panel that will hold talks with the Rajasthan government over their demand for ST status. The Gurjjars proposed to hold talks on Saturday afternoon in Bayana, in a letter sent to the Vasundhra Raje government thorough an Indian news channel.
The Gurjjar community leader Kirori Singh Bainsla had made it clear on Friday that the talks will only be held in Bayana in the Bharatpur district which has been the epicenter of the stir since May 23. The Gurjjar leader remarked that the talks will be held in Bayana and they have only one demand that the state government should send a recommendation granting ST status to Gurjjars.
The state government immediately swung into action after receiving the letter today and called a high level meeting to chalk out the future course of action. Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil in Delhi held a meeting with senior officials, including National Security Advisor MK Narayanan, discussing the pros and cons of granting a de-notified tribe status to the Gurjjars.
