Gulnara Galkina-Samitova won the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase at the Beijing Olympics, breaking her own record with a time of 8:58.01.
World champion Eunice Jepkorir of Kenya took silver in a time of 9:07.41, while another Russian Ekaterina Volkova won bronze in a season best timing of 9:07.64.
Galkina- Samitova has held the world record in this event since 2004 and produced six of history’s fastest eight performances. She is in her best form and is optimistic of displaying her mettle in other events such as the 1500m and the 5000m, where she will be competing on Tuesday, August 19.
