Vasundhra Raje led Rajasthan government has removed a top police officer of the state over the Gujjar clashes, which has reportedly left about 42 people dead. Director General AS Gill has been asked to go on a long leave, clearly signaling that the government is unhappy the way matters were handled under Mr. Gill. The clashes between the police and members of Gujjar community have been continuously on the rise, which was a major concern for the state government.
Next in line to AS Gill, KS Bains who was given the charge of intelligence recently has been appointed the new director General of Police. In the meanwhile, the Gujjars have refused to allow postmortems by any Rajasthan Government hospitals. A team of doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has already left for Bayana, where protesters have kept the bodies of those killed on ice slabs, refusing to cremate them. It has now been over six days into the stalemate over the Gujjar demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
