Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria earned the first Wimbledon championship for his country after winning the boys' singles at the grasscourt grand slam on Sunday, July 7, but he refused to get carried away by this feat. The 17 year-old defeated Henri Kontinen of Finland in the final round by 7-5 6-3 to grab the junior Wimbledon title.

It now appears that his success has only sharpened his appetite for bigger goals. ‘Yes, I won the Wimbledon title but it's not such a big success for me as it's only a junior title after all,’ remarked Dimitrov later. In the same breath, he added that he would genuinely feel satisfied only if he managed to win a men's tournament of such significance.

Grigor Dimitrov, however, admitted that the win has come as a surprise for himself too as he was not well prepared and so did not expect to win. This Bulgarian player will be given a wild card for next year's main draw at Wimbledon. Speaking about this, Dimitrov said, ‘My main goal now is to establish myself among the top 100 in the men's ranking and never leave there.’ Stefan Tsvetkov, the President of Bulgarian tennis federation, congratulated Grigor Dimitrov and remarked that his winning is a great accomplishment for his nation.
