Greater Noida Airport Project seems entangled in political imbroglio and legal clauses. According to sources the project could suffer damage because of changing political equations in Central politics. The latest development where U P Chief Minister Mayawati charged the UPA government, and deserted UPA coalition, latter seemingly has lost interest in the upcoming project.
Reportedly, Attorney General of India has cited that there cannot be any airport in the periphery of Delhi Airport to the extent of 150 KM, which is a part of agreement between airport operator GMR and the government. And, if an airport is constructed in Greater Noida, would be a violation of the said clause. However, it has much to do with politics than legal clause.
Admittedly, the clause could be scrapped under central government's discretionary power, provided it wants; the bitter terms between State Government and Central Government are bound to harm the interest of Noida people. Now, there is every likelihood that government will listen to the Attorney General's recommendation, and most probably the Greater Noida Airport Project would be put in cold storage.
