Grandparents Day, a day for honoring grandparents and celebrating family traditions, will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. The origin of Grandparents Day can be traced to the idea of an annual celebration exclusive to those 80 years and older.
Grandparents Day founder, Marian McQuade, has spent her life honoring the heritage of the elderly and uniting generations. In recognition of her efforts US President Jimmy Carter signed a law to establish the first National Grandparents Day. Traditionally Grandparents Day is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day. Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September. This year Grandparents Day is falling on 7th Sepetember.
National Grandparents Day began in Canada in 1995 when Motion Number 273 moved in the House of Commons by Mr. Sarkis Assadourian to this effect was agreed to.
