Government is thinking of amending Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) of India bill presented in Parliament in the year 2007. The bill after amendment will empower Airport Regulator for fixing and reviewing charges in all domestic airports. Along with this, government is willing to allow the new airport regulator to monitor pre-set performance standards.
The bill though introduced in the year 2007 could not get legislators nod, will be put on the table in October session of Parliament. Admittedly, AERA was made to fix, review and approve tariff structure for aeronautical services and also to monitor pre-set performance standards at Indian airports. Later on the bill was sent to Parliamentary Standing Committee for recommendation.
Union Cabinet has already given approval to the bill. Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said that the meeting reached on to conclusion that all the recommended amendments in the bill will be carried out, and amended bill be brought into Parliament for approval in October session.
