Government has shelved a bill against corrupt judges. There has been much hue and cry about the issue of corruption in judiciary and there were voices asking for a legislation to check arbitrariness and corruption of judges. Now, according to some analysts government in effort to avoid confrontation with judiciary has put the judges’ enquiry bill into cold storage.

Recently, CJI K. G. Balakrishnan and Justice BN Aggarwal refused to entertain petition which asked for a high-level impartial and unfettered probe against judges named in the Ghaziabad scam case. And, in the aftereffect of it former lawyer and former Law Minister Shanti Bhushan had commented that the Supreme Court was protecting corrupt judges.

Law Minister H. R. Bhardwaj however did not tell reason behind delaying of bill but said that the government is committed to reform the judiciary to make it stronger and more transparent. After careful examination of all aspects, including the Standing Committee's recommendations, the Judges Bill is ready from government side to be placed before the cabinet.
