Government, in an attempt for enhancing the fire and emergency services of the nation, has approved Rs. 200 crore on Thursday.
 
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The approval for boosting the fire and emergency services of the nation, during the final stages of Eleventh Five Year Plan, was given by the Home Ministry.
 
About 75% of the fund will be contributed by the Central Government whereas the state government has to contribute the remaining 25% from its pocket. In the north -eastern states, the ratio of these contributions will be 90:10.
 
"The scheme will fill the existing gaps in fire fighting and rescue capability by introduction of modern technology," according to a statement issued here.
 
The aim is also to create awareness among the masses and school children on fire safety.
 
"It will help preparing future plans about upgrading of fire services in the country," it added.
