Citing a list of 349 cases in SC against SIMI, the government of India has alleged that SIMI has become a grave threat to India’s peace, security, and integrity. The UPA government considers the fundamentalist outfit posing grand threat to secular India. Also, the Centre has argued that allowing free run to the organization would seriously compromise national security.

The affidavit filed by GOI pleaded that if unlawful activities of SIMI were not curbed and controlled immediately; it would take the opportunity to continue its subversive activities and reorganize its cadre, and can disrupt the secular fabric of the country by polluting the minds of the people by creating communal disharmony with anti-national propaganda.

Also, there has been seeking of perpetual ban on SIMI from GOI. It has pleaded that SIMI has been found increasingly involved in terrorist attacks, and its activists are busy spreading the message of Jihad. SIMI has also been allegedly supporting terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. The group according to affidavit was involved militant and disruptive activities in India.

There has been presentation of 42-page affidavit on government behalf and it has cited a list of 349 cases that were filed against SIMI prior to February 2006. Incidentally, investigation into the Ahmedabad blasts has provided strong evidence on SIMI’s involvement in disruptive activities in India.
