Government is all set to roll out the National Mission for Women, which is a programmed led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for fighting the social evils which prevails against the women.
This proposal, which was put forward by Ministry of Women and Child Development, will be an all-comprehensive programme for the welfare of women. This will also evaluate the efficiency of programmes which have been launched by government for welfare of women.
"The idea of the National Mission for Women was proposed initially by President Pratibha Patil. There are many women-centric programmes in different ministries and this mission will converge them all and monitor them," said Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath.
The programme, which will get over in 2018, will check for maternal mortality, child sex ratio, the marriage age for a girl as well as other indicators for coming up with new schemes for the welfare of women.
The Planning Commission has allocated Rs.8,670 crore for a period of nine years for the mission.
The ‘Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls’ has also been put forward by the ministry for the improvement of nutritional status of girls, who are out of school.
"This programme will be implemented in anganwadi centres," Tirath said.
She mentioned that the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) was approved only by 7 states earlier, but now all the states are showing interest.
"ICPS is a scheme that was launched this year to increase awareness and work on issues of child rights like setting up of foster care homes. Seven states had signed an MoU till now with the centre to jointly handle this scheme financially, but all the other states have said that they will sign it in the next two months," Tirath added.
