Government has put aside the claims of the senior DRDO scientists that Pohkhran – II nuclear test conducted by India about 11 years back was not a successful one.

"He is a perennial doubter. Why has he waited for five years of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government to make the claim?" a top government official said while pointing out at the claim made by the retired scientists.

"Out of eight different tests, one may not have yielded the same set of results that we may have talked about. But the rest of the seven have been a success," said the official, who was addressing the media informally during his visit with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on way to Pittsburgh, US, for the G20 Summit.

The official was responding to the claims put forward by the retired Defence Research and Development Organisation scientists, K. Santhanam, that the Pohkhran II nuclear tests that India had conducted in 1998 was a complete failure.

The tests were conducted May 11, 2008 at Pohkhran in Rajasthan during the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government under prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, following which India had to face economic sanctions.
