The government of India has tied up with software giant Microsoft Corp to combat Internet threats. A website titled ’secureyourpc.in’ has been jointly launched by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Microsoft which aims to provide vital information to internet users in fighting online threats. While launching the anti-threat website, special secretary in the ministry of information technology, R. Chandrashekhar said that with increasing number of internet users in India, the possibilities of online threats have also soared up.
The new website has been launched to counter these growing Internet threats. The Department of Information Technology had constituted CERT in order to counter online threats and crimes. CERT director general Gulshan Rai mentioned that one of the major threats to business sites is phishing site. These types of sites are largely created outside the country. The issue of online security came to forefront after the threats on the banking sector.
According to Gulshan Rai, it is very important to take requisite measures for combating online threats before its affect other sectors. The chairman of the Data Security Council of India (DSCI), Shyamal Ghosh informed that DSCI has formulated massive plans to enhance awareness about online security and users’ safety. The experts are of the view that in order to have successful broadband in India it is very essential to develop online security tools.
