The Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved Prasar Bharati the rights to broadcast the Commonwealth Youth Games at Pune and Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The government will offer Rs 463 crores to Prasar Bharati as funds to broadcast the two mega sporting events. This decision was announced by the Finance Minister P Chidambaram at a press conference after the CCEA meet. According to him, the fund is being offered to Prasar Bharati so that it can meet all the required expenses during the coverage of both the events.

Out of the total fund of Rs 463 crores, 50 per cent is government grant while the rest amount is given as interest free loan to the Prasar Bharati. The finance minister also informed that Prasar Bharati can earn revenue by auctioning the broadcast rights.  The Commonwealth Youth Games will kick off at Pune this October and Commonwealth Games at New Delhi will take place during October 2010. This new move by the government will surely enhance the reach and popularity of both the mega events.
