The Central Bureau Of Investigation has disclosed that the government has provided approval for 71 new fast tack courts to deal with the cases of corruption. These 71 courts will come across various states.

This approval comes in the light on the public appeal made by CBI director Ashwani Kumar to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, last month in New Delhi.

Kumar had put forward this request during a CBI meeting where he mentioned that the "weak justice system" hampered the efforts to curb corruption and provide justice to those who are suffering.

"The CBI has always been active in its war against corruption. But the prime minister's impassioned speech (at our meeting) has indeed encouraged us," CBI spokesman Harsh Bahl told.

"We have resolved to complete all our investigations within one year and conclude the trial of corruption cases within two years."

He added that these 71 courts will boost the prosecution process and provide justice to those who are in need. "These will be established in various states."

Bahl also said that the CBI was moving to fill up "some vacancies in the prosecution wing".

Manmohan Singh, who was addressing the CBI biennial conference, had mentioned that corruption is hampering India’s progress and bringing down the worth of India.

"The poor are disproportionately hurt because of corruption," he said. "We have some of the most ambitious and wide-ranging programmes in place to help the poor and the deprived sections of the society."

Manmohan Singh called corruption a menace that "tarnishes our image" and "hurts our economic growth in a variety of ways". He urged officers in the CBI not to let the "big fish" get away.
