Android’s 2.3.3 or Gingerbread update is now available for Nexus One and Nexus S smartphones. The announcement has just come and we can expect the update after some time. Google announced about this on Twitter.

A notification regarding the update will be sent to the Nexus One and Nexus S phone users.

With 2.3.3 update, we can expect Near Field Communication (NFC), better keyboard, text editing features, and Facebook Android application among others. However, all this will work depending on the hardware in place.

The next update from Android for smartphones would be 2.4 version dubbed as Ice Cream, which is yet to be launched. While this is official confirmation by Google, we cannot forget hackers trying to port Honeycomb on smartphones, which was launched only for tablet computers. However, Honeycomb OS on smartphones has long way to go.
