Google has launched a new feature through which the Google Voice service would allow the users to store phone numbers which may be used later. The unanswered calls would be forwarded to a special Google Voice mailbox ignoring the voicemail provided by their phone carriers.

Google Voice offers a string of features like unlimited storage and text transcription of voicemail messages. Apart from that, the users can also make international calls with a low price using its Google Voice. Previously, the users had to adopt a special Google phone number. Now the consumers can retain their existing phone numbers to get the same service.

Craig Walker, a group product manager at Google, said that the users would be provided with a special code to enter into their phone by which unanswered calls would be forwarded to a Google-maintained voicemailbox.

"Virtually all the carriers already allow this," said Walker.

He also mentioned that all the cell phone operators generally approve of call-forwarding since the service providers charge according to airtime minutes even after a call has been forwarded to another phone number.

"It allows them to continue running the meter, they charge per minute while I'm on that diverted call," said Walker.

Google Voice will now be available to a selected number of people who have either received invitations from Google or from other Google Voice users.
