With a motive to provide information on Internet and computer to general people, Google India on Tuesday (February 3) launched a unique Internet bus in Tamil Nadu. The new Internet facility-enabled bus called 'Google Bus' made its inaugural journey from Chennai. The 'Google Bus' will tour 15 towns including Erode, Dindigul, Pudukkottai, Trippur and Nagercoil in the next 45 days.
While speaking on the Internet-enabled bus, Google India's research and development head Prasad Ram said that this new initiative is taken to make general people aware of the power and reach of the Internet. According to him, 'Google Bus' will inform people regarding the benefits of the Internet. Google informed that the bus will give a simple introduction to the Internet for a new user. 'Google Bus' has been designed focusing on the four themes of education, information, communication, and entertainment.
Google confirmed that the newly launched bus will have useful and informative content in English and Tamil. The Internet-enabled bus will educate the people regarding the uses of the services like search, email, social networking, maps and others which can transform everyday life simple. The new Google initiative is focused on internet penetration in India. According to data revealed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India holds a broadband subscribers base of 5.45 million by December as against the targeted 20 million connections by 2010.
