Google is all set to translate real time voice translation with its new software. The company already has a text-to-text translation service as well as a voice recognition system which it uses on its phone software.
The company wants to develop this technology to translate voice input in real time on its smart phone. The technology could be combined from its existing Google Voice and its text translation services to create phone which could interpret instantly.
“We think speech-to-speech translation should be possible and work reasonably well in a few years’ time.“Clearly, for it to work smoothly, you need a combination of high-accuracy machine translation and high-accuracy voice recognition, and that’s what we’re working on.” Quoted Head of Translation services Franz Och.
He added, ‘Everyone has a different voice, accent and pitch, But recognition should be effective with mobile phones because by nature they are personal to you.’
