With a view to bring accelerated 3D graphics for web browsers, leading search engine Google is likely to launch a new interface called O3D. The new application programming interface, O3D will enable software developers to create interactive 3D applications for the web. According to Google, the content will run on multiple operating systems and web browsers.

The company has been working on the O3D project for the last two years. According to the company, the new technology is developed to offer desktop 3D experience on web. O3D is an open-source JavaScript API. The JavaScript required for 03D is loaded into the browser via HTML.O3D works on user's desktop by taking advantage of the GPU by way of the OpenGL or Direct3D library.

For the moment, the developers have provided a plug-in that works with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome web browsers. The plug-in supports all three popular platform Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. One can download Google's browser plug-in and explore its new 3D content.
