As per a recent report posted by the well-known technology blog TechCrunch, the Internet search giant Google has inked a letter of intent with the social news site Digg in order to buy it for $200 million.

The report informed that this deal will get confirmed within two weeks’ time after which Digg.com will continue to function as part of the Google news operation, which is a very popular news website on the Internet.

The stories on Google news get picked up by computer algorithm. Digg.com’s functioning mode is different as stories on it are posted by users which then get ranked as per the approval ratings of the readers. One learns that google is interested in imbibing the functioning style of Digg by allowing readers vote on the quality of the articles.

It was entrepreneur Kevin Rose who formed Digg in 2004.  He employed a programmer for $10 per hour. Rose paid $1,200 dollars for the domain name and another $100 per month for hosting the site. Digg.com is one of the most visited web portals. Digg has so far raised $11.3 million in venture capital.
