Google is set to acquire the internet telephony company Gizmo5, which is to be merged later to improve Google Voice. This is the second quick acquisition after AdMob this year.
However, Google has not disclosed the details of the acquisition.
Earlier, AdMob was acquired with a deal of $750 million.
Gizmo5 is similar to the Skype, which will offer web based phone calls for the customers. However, the former is based on an open standard called SIP to offer Google’s worldwide support. But, Skype is developed for the internal use only.
Gizmo5 can work on both PCs and mobile phones. More to it, its technology will improve Google Voice by adding VoIP application. Google Voice then can allow the user to ring multiple numbers by using a single number. Apart from that, voice mails can be transcribed into e-mails through this service.
Google hopes to make a quick impact through this VoIP service.
