Global search giant Google is soon going to launch a service known as App Engine. It is hoped that with the launch of the service, Google is going to give a tough competition to other web services like that of the Amazon. So what exactly is App Engine? Google App Engine will allow you to run your web applications on Google's infrastructure. The app engine applications are user friendly as they are easy to build and maintain. You do not need to maintain servers and just need to upload your application. App engine is free of cost for the first 10,000 people who sign up and you get a combination of several Google services.
But initially there are resource limitations in this service. It offers only 500 MB of storage and you can view 5 million page views a month. You can serve your application from domain appspot.com or from an external domain. With the launching of this service, the giant search company is sure to test the major rival of online service, Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud.
App Engine programs will be written in Python programming language and initially will have 10 GB of daily data transfer band width and 200 million daily cycles of processor use. Google is looking forward to generate some revenue from the service. In future, you will be able to store files of larger size. Google will further discus about the site on in its developer conference which is scheduled to be held in May.
