Google and Yahoo had to bid goodbye to their proposed advertising deal following a judgment of the US Justice Department. Google and Yahoo alliance was viewed as a threat to other advertisers and because of their strong protest, the justice department had to pass such a judgment. The worst sufferer of this split will be Yahoo which expected to book as much as 450 million dollars per year by partnering with Google for advertisements. According to Google's chief legal officer, David Drummond, the protest from other advertisers has restricted them from forming a major partnership in global IT sector.

Yahoo rejected a 47.5-billion-dollar takeover offer from Microsoft to team up with Google. As per the proposed advertising deal, Yahoo was supposed to earn million dollars per year by running Google's ads next to its own search results. Yahoo seems to be disappointed with justice department's decision and stated that instead of calling off the advertising deal, Google could have defended it in the court. The government regulatory body has taken four months to hear its verdict on the advertising deal.
