It feels good to see that there are still people around who care! A group of such individuals, with an intention to bring human rights awareness amongst the common man, are hosting the Tri Continental Film Festival 2008 at Panaji in Goa from July 25 to July 30. It will showcase about 21 movies from Asia, Africa and America. The Goa International centre, Moving Images Goa and Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) have joined hands to host the Tri Continental Film Festival 2008.

Taking about this festival, Gayatri Konkar, partner, Moving Images said, ‘The theme of the festival is based on human rights violation and all the films will be on this theme’. She further informed that the 21 films which will be screened at this film festival were picked out of a total of 135 films.

The Tri Continental Film Festival, one learns, is held at different places around the globe each year and that it has been brought to India this year by a human rights organization Breakthrough of New Delhi.

For the very first time The Tri Continental Film Festival was held at Argentina in 2002. Previous year too, it was held at Goa, Gayatri Konkar informed. The credit for starting this festival goes to a group of Latin American film-makers, Movimiento de Documentalistas. They started it as an art and culture initiative to explore links between social struggles and respect for human rights. The film festival since then has been growing in popularity every passing year.
