In pursuance of an agreement signed between Goa CM Digambar Kamat and IOA (Indian Olympics Association) President Suresh Kalmadi, Goa will host 2011 National Games. Goa CM said that this is a red letter day in the history of Goan sports and the state will develop world class infrastructure for the games, which according to him will be beneficial for state's players and youths subsequently.
Reassuring IOA, Mr Kamat said that the National Games in Goa will be a memorable one. And, according to him whoever comes to Goa will carry with them some fond memories and no athlete will go back without carrying back with him some fond memories of Goa and the games. He said that the event is just the beginning as the IOA has reposed great faith in Goa to host the 36th edition of the National Games.
Goa could not just forget the memories of 2005 when it had lost hosting right, and the gratefulness in the words of state CM was visible when he thanked Indian PM Manmohan Singh and also, Congress President Sonia Gandhi. On the other hand, Suresh Kalmadi wished that besides it being a popular tourist destination, Goa will become a good sport destination too.
