GMR Energy thinking of entering into a nuclear power production will invest over Rs 10,000 crore in a 2,000-3,000 MW nuclear power plant in the country. The plant according to a company executive would come in next 5-7 years. Avinash R Shah, Executive Vice-President for GMR Energy said that the firm has held talks with equipment as well as fuel suppliers and will firm up a plan in the next one years' time.
According to company source, GMR is in negotiations with equipment and fuel suppliers in France, US and Korea so that plant could be operated successfully. The firm moving towards execution of the plan has recruited experienced people from state-owned Nuclear Power Corporation (NPC). Former NPC Chairman and MD M R Srinivasan would be dealing with the project.
Mr Shah said that currently the firm is at planning and preparation stage, and in next six months to one year time it will come up with a well executed plan. Further he said that after an initial stage the firm will heighten up the capacity to 4,500 MW in five years time, and for that purpose the firm is investing an amount of Rs 16,000-20,000 crore.
