GMR, a big name in infrastructure and construction world is looking to bid for Russian airport at Pulkovo at St Petersburg. Noteworthy point is that, Russian government has decided to privatize the third largest airport of the country, and bids are invited for the same.

GMR CFO Ashutosh Agarwala commenting on the development said that GMR Infrastructure has been identified as an eligible bidder and the second round of bidding is scheduled to open soon, and as of now GMR is doing an internal due diligence to judge viability of the Russian airport.

Recently, GMR has won modernization contract for Turkey’s Sabiha Gokcen airport and the Delhi International Airport, and if Pulkovo comes in its kitty, it would be a big achievement. Mr Agarwala said that they are interested in Pulkovo Airport and will be making final call soon.

Evidently, Pulkovo Airport has two terminals - Pulkovo-1 and Pulkovo-2, a hotel, a health centre and an aircraft safety complex. And, according to Mr Agarwala airport modernization offers strong business opportunities and he is expecting more airports to come up for privatization in Europe in coming years.
