After getting elected as member of Rajya Sabha senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad has resigned as member of the State Legislative Assembly.

Azad submitted his resignation on February 19 to pro-tem speaker of J&K assembly Choudhary Mohammad Aslam. Secretary of the house M Ramzan said on Saturday (21st February) that, Aslam has accepted Azad's resignation.

In the assembly polls late last year Azad became an MLA from Bhaderwah segment in Doda district for a second straight term. He was the only MLA in the entire state to defeat his nearest rival by a margin of nearly 30,000 votes. However, he was elected to Rajya Sabha uncontested on February 6 this year.
