Georgia in its hope to get justice has filed a law suit in International Court of Justice. It has charged the crimes of genocides and ethnic cleansing against Russia during 1993-2008. ICJ too has confirmed that the Georgian ambassador to the Netherlands filed a law suit. The ICJ was set up to solve nation versus nation disputes, and this case is suitable subject matter for court.

Georgia has claimed its right to invoke a genocide convention as an additional basis for the court's jurisdiction. Georgia in its complaint has requested the ICJ to order Russia to comply with the convention, cease all military activities in Georgia, including South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Also, it has asked Russia to withdraw its troops from Georgia territory.

The fight which according to UNO has made 100,000 people homeless has attracted criticism all across the globe. There has not been independent confirmation about the causalities in war torn zone, and the ICC which was set up to try genocide and other war crimes where national judicial authorities had failed to investigate such crimes properly has taken cognizance of it.
