Finally, the peace in Georgia may be possible. Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili after meeting French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that he has agreed to a modified version of a peace plan with Russia over the breakaway region of South Ossetia. He said that the agreement is a political document, and an agreement of principles.

On the other hand Russian President Dmitry Medvedev too ordered for a halt in military operations in Georgia in response to the plan proposed by Sarkozy. Evidently, Sarkozy has been playing a mediators’ role between warring states. Commenting on the issue he said that agreement text would be presented to a meeting of European Union foreign ministers on Wednesday.

Further he said that the agreement text will be used as fundamental for a U.N. Security Council resolution. In the agreement, however, the changes made had been approved by Medvedev. Affirming the territorial integrity of Georgia in agreement text Sarkozy said that document has ample provisions for territorial integrity of Georgia in the spirit of the text.
