Former US president George W. Bush, taking a defensive stand on US attacking Iran, which led to much hostility against the US by the Muslim world, cited that the world was "much better off without Saddam Hussein". He has also urged the Muslims to curb the terrorists from spoiling Islam.

"The world is much better off without Saddam Hussein. There is no question about that. Hussein was a threat to the US," said Bush, while talking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in Mumbai.

He was answering when asked if he regrets his 2003 Iran attacks, considering that Hussein had hidden weapons.

"He was a brutal dictator. He used weapons of mass destruction against his own people. He was not letting weapon inspectors in," he said.

"Regime change in Iraq was the official policy of the US much before I became the president," Bush said candidly. But he mentioned that this decision had to be adop0ted by him as he had been the President of the US then.

When asked about how he felt about the way Muslims considered him, Bush said he would appeal to Muslims not to let "the propagandists hijack their religion to murder innocent people".

"Please don't let the propagandists tell the people that George Bush and America hate you," Bush said.

"I hate people who hijack a great religion to murder innocent people," he said.
